Understanding our low costs

We are determined to keep the cost of CloudFiler down

It's typically £77/user/annum and each user can have an unlimited number of devices

Why isn't CloudFiler more expensive?

Here are some of the ways that we have been able to design the software and the structure of our business to keep our costs low.

  • Our systems automatically spin-up and tear-down servers to ensure we only pay Amazon for the service that is required, whilst ensuring optimal performance for our customers; we can spin up a new server in 0.5 of a second
  • Our systems automatically move emails to cheaper storage tiers based on a number of factors
  • We don’t employ an army of salespeople, relying more on reputation and word of mouth; so please be sure to mention CloudFiler to others if you like what you see – thanks
  • We don’t receive many technical support enquiries because the system is highly fault tolerant and is not exposed to all the issues that face desktop applications such as: different operating system versions, development library changes, local configurations or user error such as: bad drag & drop, renaming folders, etc.
  • We have automated many of our internal business processes
  • We want our software to remain affordable to the largest and smallest businesses alike
  • The business has no debts, so there are no lenders to appease and the only shareholders are the two founders, so no pressure from external parties to increase profits

Why is there a charge for storage?

CloudFiler stores your emails in the cloud, enabling seamless filing and searching from any device: PC, Mac, tablet, phone and browser. This ensures you can always locate messages, even in cases of user errors such as renaming folders, accidental drag-and-drop actions, or malicious deletion of files from local devices.

Typically, only active projects or locations are maintained in CloudFiler, as you can easily reintroduce archived ones when needed. This approach prevents costs from escalating unnecessarily.

When you search using CloudFiler, it retrieves a copy of the email from the cloud. To ensure fast and reliable service, we maintain three copies across separate servers, along with a backup on an entirely independent system.

Previously, storage costs were included in the licensing fee, which disproportionately affected users with minimal storage needs. Now, there is a small storage charge, with most businesses paying between £154 and £308 per year for the entire organisation.

For Professional and Enterprise tier licensees, our sync connector is available. It automatically places copies of emails where you need them, directly onto your own storage system.

How many licences will we need?

CloudFiler is licensed per user, allowing staff to have as many devices as they need on the one license.

You can use more than you own for any two consecutive months, which is helpful when you have short-term peaks such as summer students on work experience.
